CWE MATH MASTERS - MATHEMATICAL OLYMPIADS #1 RESULTS
On November 15,2011 - the math masters competed in the first of five monthly Mathematical Olympiads contests.
Three students - Kevin J., Eric W., and Claire Z. - achieved a perfect score, nine math masters achieved a near perfect score, and every math master got at least 3 problems correct.
As of November 22, only 53% of sixth graders and 40% of fifth graders who competed in this contest throughout the elementary division (Division E) got 3 or more problems correct.
The Mathematical Olympiads is an international contest in which the math masters compete against teams of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students in Division E as they work to solve challenging word problems that require careful mathematical thinking. This year approximately 150,000 students comprising 3,719 teams are competing in Division E. Olympiads teams are found in all 50 states, more than 25 foreign countries, and the U.S. island territories of Guam, the Mariana Islands, and Puerto Rico .
